Occasionally, vehicles, tyres and accessories sold in Australia are found to contain a safety defect. This includes both items manufactured and those which are imported. The Trade Practices Act requires suppliers to recall any goods which 'will or may cause injury'. Seatbelts in the Toyota Soarer 30 series are currently being recalled.

 
Some imported vehicles may be equipped with an air-conditioning unit subject to the provisions of the Ozone Protections & Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989, administered by the Department of Environment & Heritage.
