The Department of Transport and Regional
Services is currently considering the responses received from the
Discussion Paper on the importation of vehicles 15 or more years old
and the options outline in the paper.
On the 2nd September 2003 the minister
advised, "Vehicle 15 years or older must be at least 15 years
old at the time of making an application. For example if the vehicle
is manufactured in the month of November 1988 then and application
cannot be made until November 2003".
This being said there may be more changes
to the regulations for vehicles 15 or more years old. Department of
Transport and Regional Services have also advise prospective importers
should be made aware there may be significant changes made to the
current regulations. As an importer you should not assume vehicles
manufactured in 1990 will be approved for importation into Australia
under the 15 years or older ruling should the regulations be changed.
Stay tuned, as updates will be posted
as soon as they become available.
